Fishing Reports
January 20, 2008
Shortbill Spearfish are here in force, with as many as 8 shots per day.
Right now is an excellent light tackle opportunity to capture one the worlds rarest billfish. Fish up to 55 lbs. have been captured recently, with many double hookups. These fish tease very well, and can be hooked on the fly rod or light tackle bait and switch.the fish have been very close to the harbor, which allows for maximum fishing time. Striped Marlin are just beginning to filter into our waters also. They have been very random , but will surprise you, out of nowhere.
There has also been a few larger Blue Marlin sneaking into the pattern, and giving us a lot of excitement on the lighter tackle. we recently had a 400-500 lb.fish on the 50 lb. tackle that we fought for2 hours before finally pulling the hook. It was one of the most impressive Blues I had ever seen , having jumped at least 50 times, several times nearly coming into the boat. There has also been a fair amount of smaller wintertime Blues in the 80-130 lb. range.
Mahimahi and small Yellowfin Tuna have also been present to keep us interested throughout the day. Overall the action has been veryconsistent, for a wide variety of species.
Tha Kona wintertime fishery is one of my favorite times to fish, because anything can happen at any time.
I look forward to taking you fishing soon

May/June 2007
On May 29, Jerry Pittman, and 3 family members had a full day combo trip, they boated 4 Ono, and still had time for a relaxing snorkel at Kealakekua Bay. Jerry wrote a really nice e-mail thanking Capt. Rick for a perfect day. Thank you Jerry.
On several trips in June, Capt Rick produced Ono for our clients, the most notable day being the 22nd, when two guys scored 7 Ono. They also caught a Shortbill Spearfish on the 23rd.
When time permitted, Rick was able to get offshore, and had a few Blue Marlin bites, but as sometimes happens couldn't stick one , we hope to get more chances in July

April 2007
We had a few trips in March, with the notable catches made by Ray Buffington who caught a 342lb Blue Marlin on 3/21 and a 674lb Blue marlin on 3/23, quite a memorable week for Ray! (See the pictures in the photo gallery) On 3/23, Ray's fishing partner John Walker also caught a 20lb Mahi Mahi. Then on Saturday 3/24, Jay Plummer got off of a cruise ship for a 1/2 day trip, and was fortunate enough to release a 200lb Blue Marlin.
I will have another report at the beginning of May.
Capt. Doug
